My answer looks wrong: what to check

Go through units, percentages, dates, remembered values and rounding before you report a result that seems off.

Start with these checks

An unexpected answer often traces back to an input rather than the formula. Walk through the checks below, then compare the result with the worked example below the calculator.

What to check

Common causes and how to check them
Possible causeWhat to check
Wrong unitRead the unit beside each field (kg, cm, ₹, %) and enter your number in that unit.
Percentage typed as a fractionEnter percentages as plain numbers: 9 for 9%.
Remembered valuesYour last-entered values may be remembered in this browser. Press Reset to go back to the starting values.
Field needs attentionA field outlined in red has a missing value, an out-of-range number or a date that does not exist.
RoundingResults are shown to a sensible number of decimals, so a total can differ by a paisa from adding rounded parts by hand.

Compare with the working

  1. Scroll below the calculator to the formula and worked example.
  2. Replace the example’s numbers with yours, or enter the example’s numbers into the calculator.
  3. If the calculator matches the example but not your expectation, check which assumptions you made.
  4. Open “See how the result changes” to see the effect of changing one input at a time.

If it is still wrong

A result is only as good as the numbers and assumptions you enter, and calculators give guidance, not financial, medical or tax advice. If the answer still looks wrong after these checks, tell us through Contact support with the calculator’s name and the values you entered.
